Upper School (Grades 6-12)

The Upper School at AISV, which encompasses both Middle School and High School, supports students during crucial years of growth by focusing on their academic learning, well-being, and personal development. Our program encourages curiosity, independence, and confidence through engaging, inquiry-based learning and high academic expectations. In Grades 9 and 10, students are prepared for the demands of the IB Diploma Programme through project work, skill development, and thoughtful assessment. Throughout the Upper School, students develop strong learning habits, critical thinking skills, and a sense of responsibility, which helps them succeed in international schools and universities around the world. AISV’s Upper School is inclusive and welcoming, offering support through differentiated classroom instruction as well as English as an Additional Language and Inclusive Education services when needed.

ACADEMIC

The Upper School academic program at AISV provides a balanced, engaging, and supportive learning experience for students in both Middle School and High School. In Middle School, teaching and learning are guided by internationally recognized standards and an inquiry-based approach that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and active participation. Students study core subjects—English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies—alongside Lithuanian language and culture, as well as a world language chosen from French, German, or Spanish. A rich co-curricular program, including Physical Health Education, Visual and Performing Arts, and Advisory, allows students to explore their interests and develop holistically. Learning is experiential and connected to real-world questions, helping students develop empathy, independence, and an international mindset while gradually assuming greater responsibility for their own learning.

In High School, students continue to deepen their subject knowledge while developing essential learning skills that prepare them for future studies. Alongside academic content, students are explicitly taught and assessed in key learning skills such as critical thinking, communication, research, collaboration, and self-management. These skills support success in external assessments—including MAP, PSAT, SAT, and IB examinations—and help prepare students for university pathways worldwide. Throughout the Upper School, AISV emphasizes academic challenge, meaningful assessment, and the development of confident, reflective learners ready for lifelong learning.

ADVISORY

Advisory is a key part of the Upper School experience, supporting students’ personal growth, well-being, digital citizenship, and sense of belonging in both Middle School and High School. Through structured programs and community-focused activities, Advisory ensures that every student is known, supported, and guided by at least one trusted adult who helps them navigate academic choices, social development, and future planning. The program strengthens communication, teamwork, and leadership skills while encouraging students to explore their interests, build confidence, and develop positive relationships within the school community.
