Information for parents and students regarding closure of school as of March 13th due to corona-virus

2020.03.12

Dear AISV Community Members,

This morning Board members (live and via email) met to discuss closing the school due to the gravity and concerns for the coronavirus. Shortly after, the Vilnius Municipality passed a resolution to close all schools, effective tomorrow for five weeks, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, AISV will close effective tomorrow morning, Friday, March 13th until Monday, April 20th. After-school activities WILL still take place for today; however, parents are welcome to pick up their children if they decide not to participate. This includes after-school programs/activities, school trips, etc. In case of an emergency, if a student or teacher needs to access the campus, then please contact the School Director (sruz@aisv.lt) and the AISV security guards (security@aisv.lt or +37052120134) who will organize a time for you to visit the campus. During this closure, our AISV Distance Learning Plan will be put into effect and is attached. Distance Learning for students K-12 will commence at 8:30 am on Monday, March 16th. We will honor our week of Spring Break in April. Therefore there will only be four weeks of distance learning. Each division will have a short assembly before the end of the school day to discuss the expectations for Distance Learning. Lower School will meet in the cafeteria at 3:00 pm, Upper School will meet in the gym at the same time, and Seniors will meet in room 210 immediately after their Mock Exams.

Expectations for AISV Community Members

Operating in an online manner will likely bring questions and confusion from all stakeholders. AISV learning expectations remain the same during this time. Our general expectations for our community members are as follows:

  • Teachers, administrators, and IT support should be available during regular working hours to support the online learning experience.

  • Students will be expected to remain active learners, and respect posted deadlines.

  • Middle and High School Students should expect to spend roughly the same amount of time engaged in learning activities as they did during the regular school day, and they should follow their normal daily schedule.

  • Families are expected to support the school by supporting their child(ren) in completing the assigned work during the designated time frame. Parents need to follow their children’s progress on Managebac, Google Classroom, and/or SeeSaw.

During this time, we ask everyone to take this quarantine seriously, not to travel, and to follow the recommendations put out by the World Health Organization:
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Practice respiratory hygiene
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
  • Stay informed and follow the advice given by your healthcare provider
If, by any chance, you or anyone in your immediate family contracts the COVID-19 virus, then please immediately notify Nurse Greta Bujaitė at gbujaite@aisv.lt.
If you have any questions or concerns, then please email me directly, and I will do my best to answer as quickly as possible.

Thank you
