The Road of M. K. Čiurlionis in Druskininkai

2017.10.17

On October 6th, the 9th grade class went on an educational trip — The Road of M. K. Čiurlionis in  Druskininkai. When we arrived to Druskininkai, we went to the Salt Studio (www.druskosstudija.lt) where with the Lithuanian sculptor Tauras Česnulevičius we made sculptures of our zodiac signs from a salt mixture according to M. K. Čiurlionis painting series “The Zodiac”. The sculptures were then baked. Afterwards, each of us got a small cube of salt and we got the chance to sculpt it. The goal was to show different textures in the block of salt.

Later, we went to the house where a famous Lithuanian painter, composer and writer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis grew up. We had an interesting guided tour at the museum by a professional guide Ms. Aušra Česnulevičienė and then we saw see his works. Čiurlionis’ paintings are a very important evidence of the level of modernity of Lithuanian art in the early 20th century.

We had a nice lunch and then we crossed the Neris river with a cable car “Lynų kelias”. It was fun and interesting to see the bird’s eye view of Druskininkai.

Overall the trip was great and we learned new facts about Druskininkai and Čiurlionis and had  fun time for creativity.
